First Steps with the Program
Simsky doesn't require any installation. Simply extract the Simsky.exe file into the folder in which you have pictures you want to work with. If you have more folders with pictures, you can copy Simsky into each of them - it takes less than 0.5 MB of disc space. There's no need to restart your PC. If you create a shortcut for the program on the desktop, the icon will have the shape of a big heart.
Simsky is a stand-alone application, which means that it requires neither any other libraries nor programs for it to run. It also doesn't need any configuration file, doesn't store data into the system folder, doesn't interfere with the Registry, doesn't gather information on users, and doesn't send any information to the author or other persons via the Internet.
Simsky runs on any PC. It doesn't require a graphic interface, such as Direct X. The only requirement is the operating system of Windows 98 or better. Windows 95 unfortunately doesn't contain functions necessary for displaying the main window of the program. Simsky was successfully tested on Windows 98 / Me / 2000 / XP / Vista.
The minimum resolution for running Simsky is 800x600. The most convenient is the resolution of 1024x768. The minimum color depth is 16 bits, which is enough for viewing pictures. However, for picture editing, especially for creating color blending, I strongly recommend the depth of 24 or 32 bits! Otherwise visible changeover steps (banding) will be observed in the resulting picture.
New version of the program
If you download the latest version of Simsky, simply extract the files from the archive to the folder where you have the older version of the program. Choose "Yes" when asked about rewriting the existing file. That is all, no restart of your PC is necessary.
Also without any complications - simply delete all files you have extracted from archive (Simsky.exe + appropriate instructions in txt format). Merely delete the heart-shaped icon from the desktop, if you created a shortcut of the program.
Do you want more? For example that the program would be able to automatically check over the Internet if a newer version exists, and be able to carry out the complete downloading process by itself? No problem! Write me what would you like to add to Simsky and if there are enough of you, I will implement your requirements in the program!
